The Obidient Movement has warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against any attempt to manipulate the 2027 general elections, urging electoral and security agencies to safeguard the credibility of the polls.
The group issued the warning following Wike’s declaration that he would coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers State.

In a statement released on Wednesday through its Media and Communications Directorate, the movement said the minister’s campaign role should not be interpreted as authority over voters or the electoral process.
“Wike must understand that coordinating a political campaign does not confer ownership of the electorate, control over voters, or authority over the electoral process,” the statement read.
The group stressed that neither Rivers State nor the FCT belonged to any politician or political party, insisting that the electorate must retain the constitutional right to determine who governs them through free, fair and credible elections.
It urged Wike and other supporters of Tinubu’s re-election bid to concentrate on campaigning and presenting the administration’s record rather than making statements that could raise concerns about electoral interference.
“If Wike believes the APC deserves victory, he should campaign for it and allow the people to decide,” the movement said.
The group added that the President’s performance should be presented to Nigerians for evaluation at the ballot box.
The Obidient Movement also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to demonstrate impartiality and ensure that electoral rules were applied fairly throughout the process.
It urged the relevant institutions to protect voters, election officials and electoral materials against intimidation and interference.
The movement further warned that anyone found attempting to manipulate the elections should face the consequences prescribed by law, regardless of political affiliation or position.
“The Obidient Movement warns that any attempt by Wike, his political associates, or anyone else to manipulate the 2027 elections must be treated as an unforgivable electoral offence,” it stated.
The group also appealed to Nigerians to remain vigilant before, during and after the elections, document suspected irregularities and report credible evidence to the appropriate authorities.
It maintained that public participation and accountability would be essential to protecting the integrity of the electoral process.
The statement followed Wike’s announcement that he would serve as field commander for Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers State, a move that has drawn reactions from opposition figures and political groups.
The Obidient Movement insisted that the outcome of the 2027 elections must be determined by voters rather than political influence, urging all parties to respect the democratic process and allow votes to count.
