The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Enugu State has challenged Governor Peter Mbah to demonstrate how the state’s rising revenue and billions of naira invested in infrastructure have improved the living conditions of residents.
The party accused the governor of focusing on revenue growth and physical development without providing sufficient evidence of corresponding improvements in poverty reduction, job creation, household income and economic empowerment.

The PRP governorship candidate, Ray Kene Ogbodo, stated this in a statement issued to journalists over the weekend through his media aide, Don Victor.
Ogbodo was reacting to Mbah’s presentation of his administration’s performance report at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, on Thursday, during which the governor highlighted achievements recorded since assuming office in May 2023.
Mbah had said his administration was making progress towards restoring Enugu State’s position as a preferred destination for living, business, investment and tourism.
However, the PRP candidate questioned whether the reported growth in internally generated revenue had translated into tangible economic benefits for ordinary residents.
He argued that an increase in government revenue should be reflected in improved living standards, greater employment opportunities and stronger support for small businesses.
“The fundamental question remains: Are the people of Enugu becoming more prosperous, or is it mainly the government that is becoming wealthier?” Ogbodo asked.
He said the government needed to provide clear figures showing how many residents had been lifted out of poverty, the number of sustainable jobs created and the extent to which struggling businesses had benefited from its policies.
“When government revenue increases dramatically, the people deserve to see corresponding improvements in their lives.
“How many families have escaped poverty? How many sustainable jobs have been created? How many struggling businesses have received meaningful support? These are the questions that should define a credible performance scorecard,” he stated.
Ogbodo acknowledged the importance of infrastructure projects, including roads, schools and healthcare facilities, but maintained that such developments should not overshadow the immediate welfare needs of residents.
He argued that public investments should translate into better access to basic necessities, improved economic opportunities and a more affordable standard of living.
According to him, infrastructure development would have limited value to residents who could not afford food or meet other essential household expenses.
“Our people must be alive, healthy and economically empowered to enjoy the infrastructure being built. A beautiful road means little to a family that cannot afford food,” he said.
The PRP candidate called on the Mbah administration to make the welfare of residents a central measure of its performance, insisting that government achievements should be assessed by their direct impact on people’s lives.
He maintained that the success of any administration should not be measured solely by revenue figures or completed projects, but also by improvements in living standards and the economic security of citizens.
The exchange comes as political parties in Enugu State intensify preparations for the 2027 governorship election, with the performance of the incumbent administration emerging as a major issue in the political debate.
Mbah has highlighted his administration’s achievements in infrastructure and economic development, while opposition parties have continued to demand greater evidence of the impact of government policies on ordinary residents.
