FG assures citizens safety as President Jonathan unveils trophy for 1st Local Government Sports Festival

ABUJA (Special Duties & Inter-Governmental Affairs Ministry News) – The Nigerian Government has assured Nigerians of its commitment to securing their lives and properties apart from doing everything possible to develop Nigerian youths towards the implementation of the Transformation Agenda of the present administration.
 
The Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki made the remark while receiving on behalf of  President Gooodluck Jonathan, the National Organizing Committee (NOC) of the first Nigeria Local Government Sports Festival in his office on Tuesday July 2, 2014. He condemned the attitude of politicians who use the security situation in the country as a means to score cheap popularity rather than support the government in its efforts to curb the activities of insurgents in the country.
 
While unveiling the trophy of the first Nigeria Local Government Sports Festival, the President said that the Government will liaise with all agencies, especially the Federal Ministry of Sports to provide the Committee with all technical and logistic supports towards success for the sports festival.
 
Also speaking at the forum, the Chairman of the NOC, Solomon Gbenga said that the proposed sports carnival, otherwise known as the ‘Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Unity Sports Carnival’ was organized in recognition of the efforts of Government to transform the Nigerian economy and lend the support  of the Committee to the  Transformation Agenda of this administration. He further described the Committee as a group of young patriotic and positive spirited Nigerians, who want to partner with the Government to contribute their to national development, peace, security and youth re-orientation. He stressed that the idea of the carnival was anchored on the wordings of the second stanza of the Nigerian National Anthem.
 
The Committee Chairman called on the President to among other things, grant the enabling support, security and logistics for the project to take off.
 
The Minister in a separate remark called on all groups and organizations to come forward with positive programmes towards improving the lot of Nigeria and Nigerians; assuring that Government would be more than willing to partner with them. He also expressed the gratitude of President Goodluck Jonathan to the Committee for the patriotic efforts it is making to support the Nigerian Government.
