The Cross River State Police Command has disclosed that 12 officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) are currently in detention over the alleged killing of six detainees including one Derek Maurice, a 300 level Accounting student of the University of Calabar in April, 2014.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Hogan Bassey, who made this known yesterday, said the arrest followed the recommendation of the state’s Directorate of Public Prosecution and that they will soon be arraigned in court.
It was learnt that the police officers were exposed following a petition by mother of one of the boys, Eno Maurice, which resulted in the AIG of Zone 6, Musa Daura, setting up an investigative panel.
