The All Progressives Congress Senators from the North, who were among the 81 members of the Red Chamber that sponsored the vote of confidence passed on Senate President, Bukola Saraki and principal officers, on Thursday, denied working against the interest of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The senators stated this at a news conference addressed by the Chairman, Senate ad hoc committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Dino Melaye.
They described the publication in a national daily, which alleged that 22 Northern senators, who signed the vote of confidence motion on Saraki, were actually those working against the president’s interest in the senate.
Melaye noted with concern that the report, which tagged the affected senators as ‘Anti – Buhari’, was wicked, satanic and unacceptable because all of them actually worked for his (Buhari) victory at the poll and had determined to ensure the success of his administration.
The senators also alleged that the sponsors of the publication were actually the real enemies of the president because their action was capable of causing disunity between the South and the North.
While pointing out that the publication was a great disservice to the country, Melaye assured that the members and leadership of the 8th Senate were committed to moving the nation forward by ensuring the success of Buhari’s programmes and policies.
One of the senators Binta Garba (Adamawa North), wondered why somebody like her could be mischievously linked to groups that would be against Buhari when her people were actually looking forward to him to uproot insurgency in the North East.
She said, “My father, who was the driver of General Muhammadu Buhari when he was in the military, will never forgive me if I work against the president. It is not possible for me to work against him”.
Another Senator, Mohammed Shittu (Jigawa North East), who recited some Quranic verses in his response, alleged that the people who invited senators to the International Conference Centre on the day when the 8th senate was supposed to be inaugurated, were the real enemies of Buhari.
He also rained curses on the writers and sponsors of the publication describing them as enemies of Nigeria.
