Atletico Madrid striker, Julian Alvarez has come out to open up his controversial penalty during the shootout loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, he has watched the clip a thousand times, and he did not see any second touch, and if there were indeed two touches, the contact must’ve been very minimal that it is was difficult for him to perceive.
Alvarez added that the rule has to be clearer for cases like that, and the punishment should be a repeat take.
His words, “I have watched it a thousand times, there are videos everywhere. The truth is that I don’t feel the touch, because if there were two touches, the contact is minimal and it is very difficult to perceive it.
I think the rule has to be a little clearer because I don’t try to take any advantage and if the goalkeeper is off his line when he makes a save, the penalty is repeated. This is not to take any advantage. It’s a shame what happened.”
