Nigeria’s Sports Minister, who is the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bolaji Abdullahi has commended the Nigerian Academicals Sports Committee (NASCOM) for the new lease of life it has brought to bear in the development of grassroots sports, especially at the school sports level.
The Minister gave this commendation on Monday 25th of November, 2013 in his office during the presentation of the Committee’s progress report to the management of NSC.
Bolaji Abdullahi noted the Commission’s delight for the innovation introduced by NASCOM in academicals sports in Nigeria, amongst which are improved attendance and increase in participation by children in the ongoing school sports festival in Ilorin, Kwara State.
“The new thinking you brought to bear, the freshness of your idea and the Rhythm ‘N Play initiative are pointers to your commitment to sports development amongst school age children,” he said.
According to him, the NSC’s desire is to see greater activities which are geared towards realizing the targeted two million enrolments of Nigerian school children under the Rhythm ‘N Play initiative.
He urged NASCOM to move from planning to the real action and disclosed that the Commission would continue to give its support to the Committee.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of NASCOM, Yemi Idowu demanded for assistance from the National Sports Commission in strategic areas; expressing appreciation for the help rendered to NASCOM by the Commission in all its activities. He also prayed for the sustenance of the partnership towards developing youth sports in the country.
