Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has credited his victory in the 2023 governorship election to the integrity and fearlessness of the Returning Officer, Professor Nnenna Oti, who resisted intense pressure before declaring him the winner.
Speaking at the wedding ceremony of Professor Oti’s daughter, Dr. Onyinyechi Orieoma, and her husband, Ugochukwu Peter, in Ozara Mgbom village, Afikpo LGA of Ebonyi State, Governor Otti praised the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), for standing firm against external influences.
According to the governor, despite the intense pressure mounted on her, Professor Oti remained resolute and ensured that the will of the people prevailed.

“When she came, she did something that people don’t regularly do. All the pressure that was mounted on her, she turned them down and did the right thing,” Otti stated.
He further acknowledged speculation about a possible relationship between them due to the similarity in their surnames but clarified that while he had known about Professor Oti, they had never met until she served as the Returning Officer in March 2023.
“I want to use this podium to recognize her and thank her for what she did for Abia people. I think it’s more like what she did for God because she followed her conscience; if she didn’t, I wouldn’t be here today,” he added.
Governor Otti also took the opportunity to advise the newlyweds to cherish and support each other, emphasizing the importance of love and companionship in marriage.
