The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has announced the creation of a Shadow House of Assembly to enhance accountability in governance.
The party’s chairman, Abraham Amah, made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the PDP secretariat in Umuahia on Tuesday.
Amah revealed that Solomon Akpulonu, representing the Obingwa East State Constituency, has been appointed as the Speaker of the Shadow House of Assembly.

Amah disclosed that the PDP would formally notify the Abia State House of Assembly of this development within 48 hours and urged the legislature to recognize and comply with the Shadow Assembly initiative.
“In line with democratic principles, we do hope that as soon as the House of Assembly receives our letter, they will comply accordingly,” Amah stated.
He clarified that the PDP or the opposition were not responsible for the current insecurity in the state and emphasized the party’s commitment to constructive engagement.
Reconciliation Efforts
The PDP also announced the formation of a reconciliation committee co-chaired by Abraham Amah and Peter Aguomba.
The committee is tasked with mending divisions within the party and reaching out to aggrieved members, including those who defected to other political parties following the 2023 elections.
According to Amah, the party is working to reposition itself to reclaim power in Abia State by 2027.
“We are taking all these steps to return this political party to government by 2027,” he said.
Amah commended stakeholders and party members for their steadfastness and urged them to sustain the unity necessary for the party’s success.
