The Save Lagos Group (SLG) has called for the resignation of the Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State from office as Chief Security Officer of the State over the recent incessant security threat to the lives and property of the masses in the Metropolis, saying that the development has shown the ineptitude and inefficiency on the part of the State government despite the tax payers money being spent on the provision of security of people of the State.
It however called for immediate removal of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Mr. Cornelius Aderanti and State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni over alleged dereliction of duty and incompetence to perform up to the expectation in policing the State, saying that since the emergence of the two Police Chiefs as Head of the Zone and State respectively, the State has been facing one security challenge or the other as a result of their lackadaisical attitude to duty.
Reacting through a statement signed by the group’s Convener and Director of Media and Strategy, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman and Messer Oladipo Olaolu respectively and a copy was made available to newsmen on Tuesday, they urged the authority of the security agencies in the country to beef up security around the Suburb towns and villages of the State by developing new intelligent gathering mechanism in nipping the security challenges facing the State in the bud because of the economic importance of the State as commercial nerve centre of the country.
The group strongly condemned the new geometric progression of the criminal activities within the State, particularly, the frequent rate of kidnapping and unnecessary killing of innocent citizens of the State. It maintained that Governor Ambode did not have moral and constitutional justification to continue in office as number one citizen of the State when his government failed to protect the lives and property of the people as stipulated in the amended 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Oath of Office of the Governor in Nigeria.
It insisted that the present Zone 2 Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIGP) and Lagos State Commissioner of Police(CP) have performed below expectations since their coming to the as Police Chiefs in the area which is against the Police Code of conduct to serve and protect with integrity.
It will be recalled that no fewer than 20 suspected Militants in Military camouflage swooped on Kodjo Farm, located at Igbodu, Epe area of Lagos State and abducted seven persons, including a 65 years old guard of the farm, Mr. Kakaja Joseph on Sunday.
An eyewitness also informed the public that the men were armed with sophisticated weapons by shooting sporadically after storming the farm where they carted away 50 live chickens and several eggs by forcing their victims into awaiting boat.
According to the group,” There is no need for Mr. Akinwumi Ambode to continue in office as governor of Lagos State for failing to perform his electioneering campaign social contract which is provision of security of lives and property of the people of Lagos State. Also, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Mr.Cornelius Aderanti and Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni should be removed immediately for dereliction of duty and incompetence which is contrary to Police Code of conduct to serve and protect with integrity”.
