The Acting Governor of Adamawa State Mr. Ahmadu Fintiri, has denied speculations that the state government purchased Sports Utility Vehicles for local government chairmen in the state.
Fintiri, who spoke through his media aide, Solomon Kumangar, on Wednesday, said the purported purchase of SUVs for the council chairmen was the handiwork of mischief makers.
He said, “The issue of the purchase of the jeeps is just a calculated attempt to discredit the interim government and distract the attention of the public from the current probe to recover N82bn from the immediate past administration.
“The jeeps were bought by the ousted (Murtala) Nyako administration and there is an attempt by some top government functionaries of the former regime to run away with them, but it was the intervention of security agencies that seized these jeeps, which were meant for the local government chairmen. The jeeps are 21 and not 301 as claimed”.
The spokesman stated that those trying to rope the government of the day into the purported purchase of the SUVs are doing so to distract the attention of the people from the probe panel.
“It is an effort of those who want to undermine the current government to probe the ousted administration, which ordered the purchase the cars through an in-law of the ousted governor. So, the report is just a mere campaign of calumny, no money has been issued by the state government”, he said.
