The Adamawa State Government and the state Police Command have launched an investigation into the alleged torture of a secondary school student, Jaafar Bashiru, by his teacher.
Jaafar, a student of Aliyu Mustafa Academy, Jimeta, was reportedly inflicted with injuries for eating a mango within the school premises.
Victim’s Father Speaks Out

The boy’s father, Bashiru Haman, told reporters on Saturday that he had visited the school to verify his son’s online school fees payment when he coincidentally witnessed his son being flogged.
Police Assure Thorough Investigation
The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation is underway. Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, who condemned the incident, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to take over the case.
Appealing for calm, Morris assured that justice would be served following a thorough probe.
State Government Reacts
On its part, the Adamawa State Government has pledged to ensure accountability.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajiya Aisha Umar, confirmed receiving a formal complaint from the student’s parents.
She assured that the ministry would pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
