Major stakeholders and some founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State want the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu and members of the National Working Committee of the party sacked, it has emerged.
The spokesman of the founding fathers of the PDP, Senator Abubakar Halilu Girei, who spoke to journalists said they have resolved to ask the National Chairman and NWC members to resign if the party failed to win at least 20 out of the 36 states of the federation in today’s governorship election.
Girei made the call following the skewed process with which governorship candidates of the party across the country emerged. He noted that most of the flag bearers of the party were not popular with their people “but by sheer greasing of the palms of NWC members, they emerged as candidates at the expense of those popular with the people”.
“That decision to nominate unpopular candidates has led to division in the party and many stakeholders defected to other political parties to actualise their ambitions. This should be enough reasons for him (Mua’zu) to resign or be forced to leave the seat.”
“They (Mua’zu and NWC members) should resign honourably from their positions if the party fails to win 20 states in the governorship election or we will follow the required processes for their expulsion from the party. Their expulsion would pave for the desired transformation where real politicians with high integrity would be installed as leaders who will avoid impunity, disrespect to the rule of law and abuse of power.
“We earnestly want PDP leaders that will truly give power to the people and not for their selfish interest. We want to transform, rebuild and rejuvenate the PDP,” he said.
