The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Presidency over its recent declaration that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has no plans to extend his tenure beyond 2031.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party described the remarks as presumptuous and undemocratic.
It insisted that President Tinubu’s mandate ends in 2027 and urged him to prepare to hand over to a more competent Nigerian.

The party expressed concern over what it described as a deteriorating security and economic crisis under the current administration. It particularly lamented the collapse of the naira, which it said had deepened poverty across the country.
“Under his watch, national security has degenerated into a cruel joke. Terrorists, bandits, and criminals now operate with total impunity.
Citizens are kidnapped in broad daylight, rural communities have become warzones, and insecurity has metastasised into national trauma,” the statement read.
On the economy, the ADC accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government of presiding over severe hardship.
It noted that inflation was spiralling, food prices had tripled in several states, and businesses that once thrived were shutting down due to punitive taxes and policy inconsistencies.
“Nigerians are now poorer, hungrier, and angrier than they were before Tinubu took office,” the party added.
The ADC maintained that Nigerians would not wish to extend the President’s stay in office by “a single day” beyond 2027.
