The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described President Bola Tinubu’s directive to withdraw police officers from Very Important Persons (VIPs) nationwide as “mere drama.”
ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this in a press release issued on Monday, arguing that the decision was a political gesture that fails to address Nigeria’s worsening security crisis.
InfoStride News recalls that President Tinubu, on Sunday, ordered the immediate withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs across the country.

The president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the withdrawn officers would be redeployed to core policing duties in communities, to strengthen security at the grassroots level.
Reacting to the directive, the opposition party described the move as grandstanding that reflects a poor understanding of the country’s complex security challenges.
“The decision is not new. Similar announcements were made twice in 2025 by the Inspector-General of Police,” Abdullahi noted.
“The latest directive makes for good headlines but fails to confront the complexity of terrorism, banditry, mass abductions, and violent crime across the country,” he added.
Abdullahi maintained that policy pronouncements alone will not solve insecurity, calling instead for structural reforms, improved intelligence-led policing, better welfare for officers, and stronger intergovernmental collaboration.
