The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be concerned about a possible defeat in the 2027 general elections, citing widespread economic hardship and insecurity across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said Tinubu would be contesting against “millions of Nigerians” affected by what it described as unprecedented challenges under his administration.
The party was reacting to recent remarks by the President in which he reportedly said he was not afraid of the opposition and mocked them over their convention.

ADC described the comments as unpresidential, accusing Tinubu of focusing on politics rather than addressing pressing national issues such as rising poverty and insecurity.
According to the party, the President’s remarks reflected “anxiety” and a disconnect from the realities facing Nigerians, including the high cost of living, food inflation, and declining purchasing power.
“What Nigerians saw was not the confidence of a leader in control. It was the anxiety of a President increasingly disconnected from the reality of hardship, insecurity, and frustration facing millions of citizens,” the statement read.
The party added that at a time when families are grappling with a severe cost-of-living crisis, rising debt burdens, and worsening economic conditions, the President chose to mock the opposition instead of addressing citizens’ concerns.
It also referenced reports of insecurity, including incidents of abductions, to underscore what it described as the government’s failure to adequately protect lives and property.
The ADC further faulted Tinubu’s characterisation of its convention, insisting the event was not held on the street and suggesting that the President may have been misinformed.
The opposition party also accused the President of attempting to court supporters of former President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the move as hypocritical.
