The Nigeria Association of the Blind, Nasarawa State Chapter, has lauded the state Assembly for passing into law the bill for the establishment of the state’s Disability Rights Commission.
Mr Shugaba Oloshu, Chairman of the Association, lauded the assemblymen in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lafia.
The Executive Bill, sent to the House by Gov. Umaru Al makura, is to protect the rights of disabled persons in the state.
Oloshu, reacting to the passage, also commended Almakura for initiating the bill, which, he said, would have direct bearing on the lives of the physically-challenged persons in the state.
“We have been waiting for the passage of the bill into law, and it has come to reality.
“As direct beneficiaries of the law, we are grateful to the members of the Assembly and Gov.Tanko Almakura, for giving adequate attention to our plight.
“The commission, when established, would give the physically-challenged persons their full rights as the normal persons, thus giving them a sense of belonging, in the interest of development,” he said.
Oloshu called on members of the association and residents in the state to continue to give their support to Gov. Al makura, to enable him to succeed.
