Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere Renewal Group, on Monday, demanded regional autonomy for the Yoruba race of South-West or force it to secede.

The group made its position known at a press conference in Lagos, as the national conference commenced consideration of its committees’ reports.

Briefing the media at the unveiling of a publication “Regional Autonomy or Nothing,” at the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, in Lagos, the group noted that the displeasure of the region as regards the rejection of its demands at the conference, while particularly accusing the northern group of ganging up to defeat autonomy for the regions.

“Nigeria is at a trying and testy juncture. One would, therefore, expect that we all should seize any opportunity to build consensus and reclaim the country from wrong-footed ideas and practices that brought it to this sorry state, where it is difficult to imagine a better future.

“We are, therefore, baffled at the take-it-or-leave-it attitude of delegates from other ethnic nationalities, particularly the northern delegates, who circulated a document full of fallacies few weeks ago. Those fallacies have now been exposed by the facts and figures contained in the publication we are unveiling today,” the group said.
