Weeks after the crisis rocking the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was resolved, the party is heading for another major crisis over alleged manipulation of the ad hoc delegate list the party had sent to Abuja for the national chairman’s approval.
It would be recalled that the Edo State chapter of PDP recently held its ward congresses in the state.
But some party members including the state secretary, Mr Hilary Otsu have accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of deliberately dropping the party’s authentic list for another list written from the government house.
Speaking with the media on the matter, Otsu, while confirming the development alleged involvement of Governor Godwin Obaseki, said the manipulated delegate list was actually sent from the government house.
Disappointed over the development, the Edo PDP secretary said the state was about to enter another crisis in the state chapter of the party, and that if that happens, PDP may have serious problems in Edo State.
Hillary said all that needed to be done in the last congress of the party was done, explaining the entire working committee was part of the congress that was supervised by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC.
He said,” We had different meetings before the congresses were held and there were no dissenting voices. We were shocked when we heard that another delegate list was sent to Abuja as against the one we got from the congresses. One wonders what is going on.
“When we realized that something was not right was when all the returning officers for the wards congresses returned to submit their results, and we could not find the committee sent from Abuja.
“They were nowhere around. I think we saw them briefly at the secretariat, and they left. To this moment, we haven’t set our eyes on them. Consequently, we collated all the results; me and the legal adviser.”
“We heard later that they got another list from the government house under the instruction of Mr governor and they have taken that to Abuja. That list was not collated from any congress centre.
“We are hopeful the national chairman will not go ahead to approve such a list because if that happens, we will then witness yet again the crisis Zamfara State PDP experienced two years ago.”
InfoStride News reached out to the Special Adviser Media to the governor, Crusoe Osagie but calls were not taken as of press time.
