Former Minister of Information and delegate at the ongoing National Conference, Prof. Dora Akunyili, whose health relapsed weekend and had to be flown to India on Sunday, May 11th, has reportedly started her treatment.
In a statement released by her Media Advisor, Mr. Isaac Umunna, Prof. Akunyili expressed gratitude to Nigerians for the outpouring of prayers and goodwill towards her since reports of her deteriorating health emerged on Sunday.
The statement reads in part:
“I am touched – indeed, overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and affection by my fellow countrymen and women, as well as numerous other well-wishers around the world, many of whom have not only been praying for me but have also been mobilising through the various social networks for God’s healing hands to come upon me. I am confident that Almighty God will hear our prayers and grant me quick recovery. I love you all and pray that Almighty God blesses you all”.
The former minister was accompanied to India by her husband, Dr Chike Akunyili and is said to be responding well to treatment.
It would be recalled that the former NAFDAC DG, whose appearance at the Confab – looking frail and emaciated – after a long absence from public glare, had generated concerns over her state of health, confirmed reports that she took ill but only needed some time to bounce back to her boisterous self after recovery.
