The newly sworn-in members of the State Executive Council in Akwa Ibom State have been ordered by Governor Umo Eno to focus on results when doing their jobs.
He delivered the instruction on Friday during the swearing-in event held at the Government House Banquet Hall in Uyo, the state capital.
The governor instructed them to return and promote rural developments in their individual wards and local government councils, but he also told them that all he wanted to hear about were the enormous strides made in their various ministries and in their communities.
“My dear colleagues, the Akwa Ibom people want results,” he stated. “Results in ensuring food security through the agricultural revolution we have promised to ignite.” The people of Akwa Ibom are waiting for us to make connections in the rural areas by bringing about significant development there and altering the perceptions and conditions of our rural residents.
Additionally, Governor Eno stated that the reason he rehired everyone from the administration of former Governor Udom Emmanuel was because of their abilities, backgrounds, and crucial roles they all played in ensuring his election as governor of Akwa Ibom State.
“Your Excellency, we had expected to see the injection of new blood into the state EXCO, why are you bringing back the same old blood,” I’ve been questioned on numerous occasions.
“My response has been straightforward and typical: You do not desert your foot soldiers soon after a decisive victory is carried out. These “old blood” I am well familiar with.
The majority of you spent many hours traveling the length and breadth of our state with me, and the majority of you took political arrows on my behalf. We went to the battle to maintain good governance together; we were in the trenches together; we batted away the bullets of cruel attacks together. So it only makes sense that we bring back qualified individuals who have the necessary experience and are familiar with the system.
In order to protect citizens and investors, he announced the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Security. He also tasked the ministry with identifying and profiling the state’s numerous volunteer security organizations in order to harmonize their goals and methods of operation.
