The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has said Nigerians, rather than President Bola Tinubu, are responsible for the country’s problems, urging citizens to take action through the ballot ahead of the 2027 general election.
Amaechi made the remarks on Thursday during the ADC campaign rally in Kebbi State, where he called on Nigerians to mobilise and vote against Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election.

The former Rivers State governor accused the Tinubu administration of accumulating more debt than the government of his predecessor, the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
He alleged that the current administration had borrowed more than $30 billion, contrasting the figure with what he described as Buhari’s borrowing record.
According to Amaechi, the growing debt burden was a cause for concern, particularly amid the economic hardship confronting Nigerians.
“They are borrowing money quickly so that they can take it and run away. If not, you borrowed over $30 billion, all one man, and later you people will say that Buhari was borrowing money,” he said.
Amaechi insisted that Nigerians had the power to change the country’s political direction, arguing that citizens must take responsibility by participating actively in the electoral process.
“Honestly, you are the problem; Tinubu is not the problem. If we all march out on January 16, let the idiot come out and stop us from voting,” he stated.
He also cautioned against allowing religious and ethnic considerations to influence the 2027 presidential election, describing such arguments as political blackmail.
The ADC candidate questioned the argument that the presidency should remain in the South, asking whether regional considerations should take precedence over the welfare of Nigerians.
“How can a man be campaigning that it’s the turn of the South? You will do the turn of the South until you kill us?” he asked.
Amaechi further criticised the President over comments he attributed to Tinubu concerning Nigerians embracing poverty, questioning why political leaders should not share the same economic conditions they expect citizens to endure.
He maintained that the President had not provided solutions to the country’s challenges and urged Nigerians to exercise their democratic rights by voting.
“Tinubu has no solution, for Christ’s sake. You are the solution. We must go out and march; we must go out and vote,” he added.
Amaechi called on ADC supporters and Nigerians generally to intensify voter mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that citizens must protect their votes and participate in determining the country’s leadership.
