The Young Progressive Party (YPP) governorship candidate for the November 8 Anambra State election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has named Chief Uzu Okagbue, a former aide to ex-Governor Willie Obiano, as his running mate.
Chukwuma officially unveiled Okagbue during a ceremony held on Friday at the YPP state secretariat in Udoka, Awka.
Speaking at the event, Chukwuma described Okagbue as a perfect fit for his vision of a progressive Anambra State.

“Uzu is a fitting choice for my progressive vision for Anambra State. God has made it possible for us to agree in one voice on who should be our deputy governorship candidate,” he said.
Chukwuma emphasized that the selection process was inclusive, involving wide consultations with party stakeholders, religious leaders, his campaign team, family members, and divine guidance.
“I’m proud and excited to present to you a refined gentleman who embodies the spirit of Anambra — a patriotic citizen eager to restore the glory and shining light for which Anambra is known.
I have found in him a friend and brother, and one Anambra people can rely on,” he added.
In his acceptance speech, Okagbue pledged his full commitment to the Chukwuma campaign and to the development of Anambra State.
“I will work hard to achieve our manifesto from the background, which is what I know how to do best. I will support Chukwuma to deliver a message of hope, freedom, and new ways of governance to Anambra,” Okagbue said.
He expressed confidence in Chukwuma’s candidacy, stating, “In the coming months, it will become clear that there is no better candidate in the race than Chukwuma.
I’m happy that he found me worthy to join him on this ticket. I will bring to bear my track record of delivery to help move Anambra forward.”
Chukwuma, a former aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defected to the YPP following what he described as the “shabby conduct” of the APC’s governorship primary election.
