In response to the recent suspension of HRH Damian Onwuamaeze Ezeani, the traditional ruler of Neni, by the Anambra State government, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the immediate reinstatement of the monarch.
The suspension, issued on Monday by Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, was reportedly due to Ezeani’s decision to confer a chieftaincy title on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, a member of the All Progressives Congress representing Anambra South.
APC Anambra Central Criticizes Suspension
The APC Anambra Central chapter has criticized the suspension, characterizing it as an attempt to meddle with traditional institutions and embroil them in the political landscape of Anambra State.
Mr Igboeli Arinze, the Zonal Publicity Secretary of APC in Anambra Central, stated that the suspension of Igwe Ezeani under the pretext of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law, Section 2 C, is a disrespectful act towards the state’s revered traditional institution.
Arinze emphasized that such actions could hinder the state’s peace and development.
Calls for Reinstatement
The APC Anambra Central has called upon Governor Soludo to halt what they perceive as an assault on traditional institutions by revoking the suspension of Igwe Neni and reinstating him to his rightful position.
Moreover, the party expressed concerns about the growing influence of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, describing it as intimidating to the Soludo administration, which they criticized as “non-performing.”
The party’s statement reflects the ongoing tensions between political authorities and traditional institutions in Anambra State, highlighting the delicate balance of power and influence in the region.
