The Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) has attributed the state’s impressive voter registration figures to its sustained civic education and sensitisation efforts.
This comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released new data on the ongoing nationwide voter registration, showing that Anambra recorded 168,187 new registrants in just two weeks—the highest figure recorded in any comparable period since 2017.
According to INEC, women accounted for 58 per cent of new registrants, while young people between the ages of 18 and 34 formed the majority, reflecting growing civic enthusiasm and political engagement.
The South-East, however, recorded mixed participation rates. Out of 64,696 registrations across the zone, Anambra alone accounted for 62,698, leaving Abia (772), Enugu (484), Imo (481) and Ebonyi (261) with some of the lowest figures nationwide.
Managing Director of ANCISRO, Mr Chuka Nnabuife, said the agency’s targeted campaigns played a key role in Anambra’s performance.
“Through initiatives such as My Vote, My Duty, town halls, school outreach, youth forums and parish sensitisation, we engaged traders, students, market women and other active groups that went on to dominate the registration numbers,” he stated.
Nnabuife added that the surge in registration proves that citizens respond positively when they are mobilised and encouraged to see voter registration as both a right and civic duty.
He further urged residents of Anambra and the wider South-East to take advantage of the ongoing INEC online voter registration exercise.
“This record registration demonstrates what is possible when citizens are encouraged and supported. We urge Ndi Anambra and indeed all our brothers and sisters across the South-East to participate. The strength of our democracy depends on active involvement,” he said.
With the 8 November 2025 governorship election in Anambra fast approaching, ANCISRO pledged to continue its drive to deepen democratic participation, build public trust, and ensure that every eligible citizen not only registers but also collects their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and turns out to vote.
