A alleged motorcycle thief in Niger state was lynched by an angry mob on Sunday.
In particular, the incident occurred in the state’s Dusen Kura Gwari, Bosso Local Government District.
Equally significant, in a statement released in Minna on Sunday, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, ASP Wasiu Abiodun, revealed this.
Abiodun said that at around 9:50 a.m. on Sunday, the police received a distress call that an unknown person had been attacked by a mob in the Dusen Kura Gwari area. According to him, on sighting the patrol vehicle, the patrol team was mobilised to the scene; the mob took to their heels and left the victim.
In addition, Abiodun said that the victim was rushed immediately to the Minna General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was accused of motorcycle theft,” he said.
In the meantime, the spokesman said that further investigations are ongoing into the incident in order to arrest the attackers. He warned the general public to refrain from any act of jungle justice, adding that the command would not condone what he called a “self-help approach to justice.”
