APC Accepts Saraki’s Election, Says It’s A Reality Party Must Live With

Apparently seeing what its stance on Bukola Saraki’s emergence as Senate president can do to the party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally accepted the former Kwara State governor’s election.

The party had chosen Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as its candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives leadership respectively, but a smart move by Saraki and Yakubu Dogara meant they emerged as President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representative, to the chagrin of the party.

However, while answering questions from journalists, after the submission of the Ahmed Joda-led transition committee report, at the Defence House Abuja, the national chairman of the APC, John Oyegun, announced that the party had changed its stance on the matter.

“Of course he has been duly elected by his colleagues,” Mr. Oyegun said. “We have a reality and we must live with it.”

According to Oyegun, the situation is one of the challenges the party has to face and like every other one it has had to face, it will pass away.

He dismissed insinuations that the crack caused by the development signals the party would fall soon. “No, it is not the first or second time we have passed through and we came out strong. This may not even be the last time, we come out every time stronger and more determined,” Oyegun said.

“People say they are going to court which is their right, but as a party we are looking at everything and we are coming out strong,” he said.
