The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in a brewing crisis in the state.
The party’s appeal comes in the wake of the suspension of the installation processes of the Aree of Iree and Owa of Igbajo, a move that has been condemned by the APC.
The Osun State Government, through a White Paper issued on Thursday, January 18, 2024, ordered the suspension of the installation processes of the traditional rulers and called for fresh selection processes.
The government also directed the suspension of the selection processes of the Akirun of Ikinrun and Alawo of Awo until the final determination of cases in court.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Monday, the Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, called on security agencies and prominent Yoruba monarchs to support party members who, he claimed, are facing harassment by the state government over the White Paper.
Lawal criticized the White Paper, stating, “The White Paper issued a couple of days ago is a mere smokescreen designed to divert the attention of the public from asking pertinent questions regarding the looting carnival and grossly irresponsible conduct of the mediocre and political charlatans in the seat of power in Abere.”
He further accused Governor Adeleke of setting up a Task Force comprising PDP thugs and notorious criminals to forcefully retrieve vehicles approved for past government functionaries, leading to the provocation and injury of law-abiding citizens.
Describing the cancellation of the selection processes as “subjudice” and making the governor “a judge in his own case,” Lawal warned of potential unrest if the situation is not managed carefully.
Lawal concluded by urging Governor Ademola Adeleke to revert to the status quo ante pending the outcome of the lawsuits filed by the affected parties, in order to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state.
