The All Progressive Congress (APC) has taken legal action by filing a two-ground cross-appeal at the Supreme Court, contesting the judgment of the Court of Appeal.
The appeal challenges the Court of Appeal’s refusal to disqualify Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, from contesting the election on grounds of alleged certificate forgery.
Akin Olujinmi, the APC lawyer, outlined the party’s grievances in the notice of appeal filed on Wednesday.

One ground of the appeal questions the lower court’s interpretation of the relevance of the 2nd Cross Respondent’s Form EC9 exhibit as a certificate under Section 182[1] [j] of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 [as amended].
Olujinmi emphasized the party’s stance that the decision on the certificate’s validity directly impacts the qualification of the 2nd cross-respondent to participate in the election under dispute.
The APC is now seeking an order from the Supreme Court to allow the cross-appeal.
This legal move comes in the aftermath of the Court of Appeal’s recent decision to uphold the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s ruling, initially declaring Nasiru Gawuna of the APC as the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election in Kano.
However, it is noteworthy that the appellate court later partially reversed its decision in the certified true copy of the judgment released four days after the initial announcement.
The APC aims to address these legal intricacies and seek a fair resolution through the Supreme Court.
