    APC Congress: Five LGs Kick Against Consensus For Chairmanship Position In Niger State

    Five out of 25 local government areas of Niger State have disagreed over the adoption of consensus candidates as proposed by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC for the Chairmanship position in the state.

    The state APC Congress Committee Chairman, Senator Domingo Obende who disclosed this to newsmen in Minna, said elections would be conducted in the affected councils at 10am on Sunday.

    However, he said five Local Governments have agreed on consensus for other positions in their LGAs.

    He also ruled out the imposition of candidates on the people, since stakeholders in the state have already agreed to zone positions to various areas

    “The exercise in the other local governments that adopted consensus in choosing their candidates that will the Affairs of their councils in the state were relatively peaceful, but with few challenges, especially for the chairmanship that is in contention in some few local governments that include; Wushishi, Rijau, Shiroro, Bida and Lapai respectively,” he disclosed.

    The Senator assured of the committee’s preparedness to conduct free, fair and transparent congresses in Niger State devoid of rancour.

    On the conduct of election in the five councils, he said, “a three-man panel has been set up by the party to conduct the congress in the five Local Governments. They have been given a template on how to conduct the election.”

    ” We are urging the affected local governments to remain calm and conduct themselves peacefully devoid of violence or chaos and we assure them of conducting a transparent election,” Senator Obende further stated.
