The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the immediate arrest of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women Leader, Hajiya Rabi Madawaki, over alleged inciting remarks and threats directed at electorates who may refuse to support Governor Dauda Lawal in the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The demand was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, and made available to journalists in Gusau, the state capital.
According to the statement, Madawaki was accused of making the comments during a public function attended by the First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, on Friday, May 16, 2025, in Gusau. Gusau claimed that during her speech in Hausa, Madawaki threatened that “anyone who does not vote for Dauda, we will be maimed, beaten and killed,” allegedly repeating the phrase several times for emphasis.

Describing the remarks as reckless and dangerous, Gusau stressed that elections in a democracy should be based on free choice and policy persuasion rather than threats and intimidation.
“But threats to life and intimidation? No. These are the exact things Nigerians are trying to remove from the political scene,” he said.
He further argued that such utterances suggest a broader plan of voter suppression and intimidation orchestrated by the PDP and possibly sanctioned by Governor Lawal’s allies.
The party urged security agencies, particularly the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), to arrest and prosecute Madawaki, noting that she holds no immunity and should be held accountable.
APC also recalled previous allegations against the PDP involving armed thugs and accused the current administration of fostering insecurity, voter suppression, and benefiting from undue military influence during the 2023 elections.
The statement concluded by reaffirming APC’s role as a resilient opposition, vowing not to be cowed by threats and pledging to defend democratic values in the state.
