The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the All Progressives Congress to face reality and use the period before the August 9 governorship election in Osun State to campaign and canvass for votes, just like the PDP is doing.
In giving the unsolicited advice, PDP said instead of engaging in political blackmail and empty propaganda in the media, it is better the APC focus its attention on finding more effective ways of wooing the electorate.
The PDP commended its Flagbearer, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and other party stalwarts in the state for engaging in vigorous all-inclusive campaign in all the nooks and crannies of the state, which it said, had resulted in the massive support currently being enjoyed by the party among the people.
National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Sunday, said the party was, however, not resting on its oars as it is working harder than ever to ensure victory in the polls.
Metuh noted that the factors that gave it victory in Ekiti State included a popular candidate with grassroots appeal, strong and well accepted message as well as the humble and effective leadership of its national leader.
Stressing that the era of cutting corners to win elections in Nigeria was over, the PDP spokesman said the people were now more politically aware and would give support to the party that best connects with them and their aspirations.
Metuh added that while Omisore and members of the PDP had been campaigning and winning the support of the people, the APC had been engaging in “political gallivanting, rigmarole and ineffective propaganda in the media, without focusing on the fact that only the votes of the people will count on election day.
He said, “We urge Nigerians to note that whilst the APC leaders are focused on campaign of calumny and creating confusion, the PDP is sensitising, appealing and campaigning to the people, while strengthening and expanding its support base in the state.
“We want them to note that whereas our candidate and supporters have been engaged in vigorous all-inclusive campaign in all the nooks and crannies of the state, the APC, detached from the people and ignoring the reality that the South-West voters are tired of fake progressives, has stuck to out-worn triumphant cliches and tactics, like it did in Ekiti.
“When they eventually lose, blackmail and violence may come handy in an attempt to discredit the process.
“In any case, what does one expect from a party that has no message and agenda for the people; a party based on religious and ethnic interests and which has absolutely nothing to offer in the furtherance of the national interest”.
