The choice of the governor of Taraba State to celebrate while the state is on fire has been criticized by members of the All Progressives Congress, also known as the APC, in Taraba State.
The American People’s Party (APC) has expressed its displeasure with the Governor’s celebration of his daughter’s graduation from law school, citing the recent boat accident as well as the ongoing security difficulties that are plaguing the state.
According to the APC, the Governor was wasting the resources of the state on a celebration that will not have a beneficial influence on the state.
Through the Chairman, Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, the APC voiced their disappointment in the Governor’s failure to offer sympathy to the families of those who perished in the recent boating accident that occurred in the state.
El-Sudi, who made the position of the party known to the public on Friday through a statement that was issued in Jalingo, said such action amounts to insensitivity on the part of the Governor to the plights of the people.
“When the state is still mourning the death of those involved in the recent boat mishap in Karim Lamido, coupled with the high cases of kidnapping across the state, the governor, instead of addressing the situation, is busy going about celebrating,” “When the state is still mourning the death of those involved in the recent boat mishap in Karim Lamido,”
“Within the span of two weeks, over 15 people were kidnapped across the state, including a traditional ruler, and over 80 persons were involved in a boat mishap in the Karim Lamido local government area of the state.”
“It is unfortunate that while the people of Tarabia are still mourning with the families of the departed souls, the governor and his executive members threw a party in Abuja to celebrate his daughter’s graduation. They invited top politicians.” He wept bitterly.
El Sudi referred to the conduct of the Governor as a waste of public monies that was unnecessary, and he went on to say that “the governor’s decision to embark on a jamboree even as many persons lost their lives in the state as a result of the boat mishap is insensitive and unfortunate.”
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, swiftly responded by denying the claims that the APC had made against the Governor.
According to what he had heard, the Governor “was the first respondent when the incident occurred.”
“The governor did not simply send condolences; rather, he dispatched a high-powered delegation led by the deputy governor to offer his condolences to the families of the victims,”
In addition to sending a very influential delegate, the governor “also set up a committee to investigate the immediate cause of the incident and also to ensure that there is no future recurrence.”
