Ex secretary to the Nigerian government, Babachir Lawal has asked Yemi Osinbajo to not expect preferential treatment as regards the man that will be chosen to take over from Buhari in 2023.
Mr Buhari sealed four more years last month. The campaign contained arguments that voters in the south should give Mr Buhari another four years so that their region can be favored in 2023.
The debate caused disagreements between APC Southeast members and their counterparts from the Southwest.
Babachir, however, has said the APC did not vow to give Mr Osinbajo any ticket apart from the VP one, and no law forces the party to favor the vice-president.
His words to TheSun, “It is not in the constitution, so it is not a principle,”
“Principle of what? It is not in APC constitution, it is not in the national constitution, it is not in the Bible, I don’t know whether it is in the Koran; I don’t know. So, I don’t see how it became a principle.”
He revealed that he was not against southerners figthing for office, but he also wants a situation whereby northerner get disqualified as a result.
“Being a cosmopolitan man, I know Igbos not less than 10 that can successfully run this country.
“I know Yorubas that can do, I know Ijaws that can do, I know Hausas that can do, I know even Kilba.
“Hey myself, my friend, I can be president of this country. I consider myself quite competent to do so from a small tribe of 300,000 people.”
