Women in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State have petitioned the party over alleged marginalisation in the party’s recent local government congress.

The women wrote a petition to the Chairman, Local Government Congress Appeal Committee of the party, seeking redress over “marginalization against women and violation of Article 12 (ix) of the party’s constitution (2014 as amended).”

The women, who are over 60 in number and rose under the auspices of APC Adamawa Women in Politics, emphasised that there was a serious breach of the provision of the law guiding the party in respect of party representatives to the National Convention of the party.

They said specifically that article 12(xii) of the party’s constitution was violated as it states that there shall be three delegates to the National Convention from each Local Government Area of the federation, one of which must be a woman.

The petition, made available to newsmen by President of the association, Hon Comfort Ezra, said the article of the party’s constitution was not complied with in 12 local government areas of Adamawa State at the 4th September 2021 Local Government Congress of the party.

They said all three people elected in each of those 12 LGAs were men although enough women aspirants presented themselves.

They specified that the violation was evident in Mayo-Belwa, Yola North, Yola South, Maiha, Jada, Gombi, Song, Toungo, Madagali, Hong, Mubi South and Michika LGAs.

“Sir, we do hope that the Committee shall dispense justice to our marginalized women in the party,” the women told the appeal committee.
