Rotimi Amaechi has called on his supporters to ensure that the All Progressives Congress (APC) wins in Rivers state in 2019.
According to reports, the minister said that it is they only way they can enjoy the benefits of government.
Amaechi said this while on his tour of various wards in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers state on Saturday, October 27, 2018.
He said “You people need to work hard because, if we don’t win you, will not get any benefit. The day we win, is the day we should expect change in Rivers State.
“When we win, we will focus more on bettering the lots of our people because I believe that things should change.
“The only way to effect that change is to go to your various units and wards and commence new registration of members and I expect the new members to have their voters’ cards; that is the tool you will use to remove bad leaders.”
The Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been divided following the emergence of billionaire oil magnate and Amaechi’s anointed, Tonye Cole as the party’s guber candidate.
The decision to field Cole as the party’s governorship candidate has been the bone of contention.
Following the disagreement, another faction of the APC in Rivers also declared Senator Magnus Abe.
Meanwhile, Cole has promised to broker peace and foster unity in Rivers state if elected as Governor in 2019.
President Buhari, on September 20, 2018, confirmed Amaechi’s appointment as the director-general of his 2019 re-election campaign.
Rotimi Amaechi served as the fifth Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015.
