As the supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were on their way to Port Harcourt to attend the party’s presidential campaign of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, they were attacked by unidentified gunmen, police has confirmed.
According to the Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Muhammad Ahmad, the unknown gunmen “opened fire on the APC supporters”.
He said that the supporters were travelling in group from Buguma in Asari-Turu Local Government Area of the state for the rally when the incident happened. The initial report, according to the police spokesperson, showed that there were no casualties.
He said that the command had commenced investigation into the incident and bring the suspects to justice.
Buhari today flagged off his presidential campaign at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
