On Monday, President Bola Tinubu made the announcement that the time for strikes and other forms of industrial action in the country’s educational system is over.
This announcement was made by the President of Nigeria during his speech at the annual Nigerian Economic Summit, which was held this year at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja and was hosted by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).
Tinubu also announced that the Students Loans Scheme that would be implemented by his administration will begin operations in January of 2024.

“The new Students Loan Programme must begin operating no later than January 2024.
We are stating that there will be no more strikes on behalf of the future of our children and students.
“There needs to be a Consumer Credit Scheme, and it needs to go into operation as quickly as feasible.
“We cannot talk about anti-corruption when you have to look for cash to buy a car, when there’s no mortgage for homeownership,” he said.
“These are not conditions that lend themselves to fighting corruption.”
