Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie has appealed to Nigerians to give President Muhammadu Buhari ample time to study the situation of things before embarking on the fight against corruption and insecurity which he promised in his electioneering campaign.
Okogie dismissed opinions that the Buhari administration is rather slow in implementing its campaign promises, noting that as a soldier, Nigerians should expect the former head of state to strategize.
“A good soldier always strategizes. They take their time to do things. They don’t just jump into doing things. Don’t forget that he was a military head of state before. Now he’s putting on another cloak, so he has to be democratic. He has to study the ground first of all,” Okogie said.
President Buhari has been accused of being too slow in implementing his campaign promises, especially with the increased Boko Haram attacks following his May 29 inauguration which no concrete action has been taken to stop. He will also not choose his ministers until September and has neither a Secretary to the government nor a chief of staff. However, the president has promised to make the wait worth the while of Nigerians.
