The Arewa Youths Initiative for Energy Reforms (AYIFER) has urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to prioritize the revival of the Kaduna Refinery to enhance petroleum product distribution in the country.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the National Coordinator of AYIFER, Bashir Al’Amin, appealed to NNPCL’s Chief Executive Officer, Mallam Mele Kyari, to take decisive steps to restore the refinery to global standards.
Al’Amin noted that following the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery and the establishment of the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, it was imperative to shift focus to Kaduna.
“We are calling on Mallam Mele Kyari to expedite action on the Kaduna Refinery so we can be at par with other regions in the country,” he said.
He emphasized the need for a thorough and professional rehabilitation process, urging NNPCL to deliver a fully functional petrochemical refinery rather than a mere blending plant.
“Kyari should resist any temptation that could make him do something that can jeopardize his good image,” Al’Amin added.
The group expressed optimism that reviving the Kaduna Refinery would promote economic growth and ensure equitable distribution of petroleum products across the nation.
