After the disappointment of missing out on Leicester star Jamie Vardy earlier on this summer, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has wasted little time in targeting two more strikers.
The Sun reports that Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku are the duo in the Gunners’ sights and that Wenger “spoke to Lyon, Everton and the representatives of both forwards last week.”
It adds that the manager is keen to bring in at least one new face in attack before Arsenal kick off their preseason schedule later this month.
The Sun quotes an Emirates Stadium source as saying that he wants to get a deal done “as soon as possible, but he won’t rush anything and overspend.”
New arrivals won’t mean the end of Olivier Giroud, the destroyer of Icelandic dreams at Euro 2016, who the source says is “very much in Wenger’s plans.”
But the North Londoners will have to dig pretty deep. Everton have said they want £65 million for Lukaku — although the Sun claims they could end up letting him leave for around £40m — while France international Lacazette would cost some £38m.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, however, could yet throw an obstacle or two in the way. Aulas is pretty determined to keep Lacazette and has said: “I think it is his desire [to stay], and the coach [Bruno Genesio] counts on him.”
