Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has urged for a revamp of Nigeria’s security framework to combat the widespread insecurity plaguing the nation.
His call comes in response to the recent release of students kidnapped from Kuriga in Kaduna State.
Atiku praised those responsible for securing the release of the abducted students and emphasized the need to reinforce the Safe School Initiative.
Taking to social media platform X, Atiku underscored the necessity of overhauling the security architecture to effectively address the challenges of insecurity faced by Nigerians.
Expressing his joy over the students’ release after 16 days in captivity, Atiku commended the efforts of all involved in securing their freedom.
He noted the urgent need for proactive measures to tackle the pervasive insecurity, likening it to an advanced stage of cancer that requires decisive action.
Acknowledging the psychological trauma experienced by the abducted children, Atiku advocated for their professional psychotherapeutic care.
He also stressed the importance of preemptive security measures to prevent future incidents, suggesting a reinforcement of the Safe School Initiative, particularly in areas vulnerable to mass abductions.
In conclusion, Atiku emphasized the imperative of a comprehensive overhaul of the security architecture to effectively address the current security threats facing the nation.
