Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced that he is building a formidable and united opposition coalition aimed at challenging what he described as the excesses of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Atiku made the disclosure in a post on his official Facebook page, assuring Nigerians that the coalition would work to restore accountability and return governance to the people.
“We are building a strong, united opposition coalition — one that will challenge the excesses of this administration, restore accountability, and return government to the people,” Atiku wrote.

He pledged that the coalition would safeguard the democratic rights of Nigerians, particularly the right to freely choose their leaders.
“We will protect the right of every Nigerian to freely choose their leaders, and we will continue to fight for economic justice, political freedom, and national progress. We are here to rescue Nigeria. And we will not stop until that goal is achieved,” he added.
The coalition is reportedly being spearheaded by Atiku, alongside former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and other prominent political figures.
A few weeks ago, the key figures in the emerging coalition reportedly held a high-level meeting to strategize on the 2027 general elections and broader governance issues.
Following the meeting, El-Rufai was quoted as saying the coalition’s ultimate aim is to unseat President Tinubu in 2027 and “return him to Lagos.”
The development signals a growing momentum among opposition leaders to form a united political front ahead of the next election cycle, as they seek to capitalize on rising discontent with the current administration’s policies and performance.
