Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed calls for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate him, describing the demand as a political witch hunt.
Atiku said the renewed calls for an investigation were politically motivated and aimed at damaging his reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former vice president maintained that he had nothing to hide and was prepared to account for his actions and public service record.
He criticised those behind the calls, arguing that the allegations were being revived for political reasons rather than genuine concerns about financial accountability.
Atiku’s reaction followed renewed demands for the EFCC to investigate allegations linked to his past activities and financial dealings.
He maintained that previous allegations against him had been subjected to scrutiny and that attempts to revive them were part of efforts to undermine his political ambition.
The former vice president urged Nigerians to look beyond what he described as politically motivated accusations and focus on the issues affecting the country.
He also called on relevant institutions to remain independent and resist attempts by political actors to use them against opponents.
Atiku said the 2027 election should be about competing ideas, policies and the ability of candidates to address Nigeria’s challenges rather than the recycling of allegations for political advantage.
He maintained that he would remain focused on his political activities and efforts to provide an alternative to the present administration ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
