But despite heading in for the halftime on equal terms after Daniele De Rossi levelled Mario Lemina’s 21st minute opener for the visitors, Juventus were stunned by a pair of second-half strikes from Stephan El Shaarawy and Radja Nainggolan. Marco Silva admitted Hull City had only themselves to blame after a 4-0 thrashing by Crystal Palace on Sunday saw them relegated from the Premier League. After taking charge at Hull in January, Silva coaxed an improvement in his lowly team’s performances, but it wasn’t enough to save them from the drop to the Championship. The Tigers’ campaign has been marred by poor signings and boardroom turmoil that contributed to Steve Bruce quitting last year after he had led them to promotion. Silva acknowledged Hull, who were woeful in a crucial loss to relegated Sunderland last weekend, hadn’t done enough…
Leaders Chelsea have over-performed this season to stay ahead of their better-prepared London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League title race, manager Antonio Conte has said. Chelsea are favourites to win the title and can extend their lead over second-placed Tottenham, who failed to rein in Leicester City last season, to seven points with three games left if they beat Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday. “In this season, if Chelsea had not performed in this way, Tottenham would win the title without difficulty,” Conte told British media. “Only this great season (from us) is pushing them to fight…

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted he found it hard to lift his squad following their demoralising defeat to West Ham United last weekend, which all but extinguished their Premier League title hopes. Leaders Chelsea have the chance to wrap up their second title in three seasons when they visit West Bromwich Albion on Friday, which would leave Spurs battling to secure runners-up spot when they host Manchester United on Sunday. “The season so far has been good, but when you don’t win you feel disappointed,” Pochettino told a news conference on Friday. “It was difficult from Monday to Wednesday…

Homegrown hero Harry Kane scored Tottenham Hotspur’s last goal at White Hart Lane as they bade farewell to their home with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday. Kane, born up the road in Chingford, added to Victor Wanyama’s early header to secure a victory that confirmed Spurs will finish in second place in the Premier League and ended United’s hopes of a top-four finish. Demolition work at the Lane, Spurs’ home since 1899, will start on Monday, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side playing at Wembley next season before moving into their new ground, which is being built on the…
