Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State on Friday presented a budget of N107.4 billion for the 2014 Appropriation Act to the state House of Assembly. Tagged “Budget of Restoration”, the governor said it was made up of a recurrent expenditure of N43.5 billion and N63.8 billion capital expenses. Equity transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) opened after the holiday on Friday in an upward trend with the market indices growing by 0.94 per cent. The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has advised the Federal Government to review its planned policy on importation of rice. This advice is contained in a letter dated Dec. 27 and addressed to President Goodluck Jonathan. The letter, signed by the union’s President General, Mr Anthony Nted and the General Secretary, Mr Aham Ubani, said the review would also reduce smuggling of the commodity. The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a native doctor, from Umuopu Umueze in Igboeze North Local Government Area, for allegedly conniving with kidnappers in the state. Lebanese national, Mr Hassan Zaid, who was kidnapped on Monday by unknown persons, has been released by his abductors.
