President Goodluck Jonathan will in Thursday broadcast his New Year day message to the nation at 7a.m. According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, the broadcast would be transmitted on the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). The Nigerian Army has been criticized in several quarters for allegedly being lackadaisical in its fight against insurgency in Nigeria’s north east. Twenty-five ships carrying petroleum products and other commodities have arrived Nigeria through Lagos, according to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The ships are waiting to discharge their contents at the ports, the Authority said yesterday. The NPA noted that 12 of the 25 ships are laden with petrol, while a ship was carrying Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO). The others are loaded with bulk rice, general cargo, bulk gypsum, fresh fish and bulk fertiliser. At least 142 men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been trained on counterterrorism and weapons handling by the Nigeria Army. The Commandant of the 31 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-Gen.
