The news agency, Reuters, which carried the report, said Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s candidacy is intended to break the deadlock over the standoff among opposing candidates from Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Iran over the post, according to Iraq’s oil minister, Abdul Kareem Luaibi. A former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), has assured members of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) community that the name of the institution remains sacrosanct. No fewer than five people have been killed by suspected members of Islamist sect Boko Haram in an attack on two villages in Borno State. The attackers also carted away food items as well as livestocks, Vanguard reports. The Federal Government was on Tuesday ordered to pay nearly $70,000 in damages after at least one person was killed and 12 seriously injured during the military’s forced eviction of a slum five years ago. The case relates to an incident on October 12, 2009, when families in the the southern city of Port Harcourt were forced out of their make-shift homes by the military.
