The National Conference has dissociated itself from a document purportedly circulated to delegates canvassing a tenure elongation for elected public office holders by 18 months. The Senate yesterday joined the House of Representatives in approving President Goodluck Jonathan’s request to extend the emergency rule in three states in the Northeast by six months. The endorsement by the Red Chamber was, however, with eight conditions which it said must be observed in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe. A United Nations diplomat has told the Voice of America (VOA) that the Nigerian government has formally requested the United Nations Security Council Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee to blacklist the Boko Haram group after the kidnapping of 276 school girls in Chibok, Borno State, over a month ago. Gunmen have attacked Shawa village, Damboa Loacal Government Area of Borno State killing at least 30 villagers and leaving several others injured, witnesses said. The attack on the village, which is about 25km away from Damboa town, occurred at about 4am when the gunmen, suspected to be Boko Haram sect members, sneaked in on sleeping villagers, shooting and setting houses ablaze with petrol bombs.
