The Taraba State Police Command has stated that it will not accept anyone who attempts to take advantage of its relationships with civilians in order to further their own political ambitions.
The warning was issued by the command on Sunday in response to a report that was going viral on social media claiming that the Nigeria Police outstation in the Water Board area of Magami in the Jalingo city is being renovated by Uba Maigari, who represents Jalingo II in the Taraba State House of Assembly.
The allegation claimed that Maigari was responsible for the renovations.
In a statement that was made available to journalists by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Usman, the command expressed its regret that Maigari did not seek consent from the Commissioner of Police prior to beginning the renovation of the police signboard.
The Commissioner of Police, whose interest was piqued by the event, issued an order mandating an immediate investigation into the case.
According to the statement, contrary to what has been reported on social media, the newly rebuilt signboard for the police department has not been installed at the Magami Police Station. The photograph of the signboard, on the other hand, was taken at the studio of the artist who was responsible for the work.
The ensuing event was that the Commissioner of Police issued an order that the signboard should not be fixed.
“The Commissioner has further directed that under no circumstances should any community or individual use the police insignia for politics or any other purpose,” the Commissioner said in the statement.
“In other words, the Commissioner emphasized that in their capacity as guardians of internal security, the police command functions as an instrument for the protection of the lives and properties of inhabitants of Taraba State as a whole, irrespective of differences in tribe, religion, and political affiliation.
According to the statement, the Commissioner has issued a warning that the command will not accept any person(s) taking advantage of collaborations or assisting the police in pursuing their political goals.
InfoStride News made numerous attempts to contact Uba Maigari in order to obtain his response but was unable to do so. One of his political colleagues, on the other hand, stated that he had intended to get authorization from the command before placing the signpost at the outstation.
